Awareness Against Child Labour
Balvikas Academy is committed to safeguard child rights and children from underserved backgrounds, who are easily vulnerable to abuse, torture, and illegal activities. Our primary mission is to combat child labour practices all over our state. We raise awareness and educate communities to refrain from involving children in income-generating activities prematurely. To make this effort successful, we support and encourage these children and their families to attend school, and also provide them with assistance for a smoother educational journey.
Awareness Against Child Marriage
According to the report, every year more than 22000 women die from pregnancy and childbirth resulting from child marriage. Child marriage is a prevalent issue in marginalized families as they believe that getting their girl children married is an effective solution to get rid of the burden called daughter. But they never understand that this would push their children towards premature death. So, to combat this issue, we are not only raising awareness against child marriage but also taking active actions to save the girls and encouraging their parents to let their girl children be educated and give them the opportunity to shape their own fortune.
Awareness Against Foeticide
Having sons is mostly preferred over having daughters for many different reasons. Thinking women are less valuable than men is still a matter of worry as it leads to female foeticide. To stop this, we are raising awareness against foeticide among the communities that sex determination is an illegal and punishable offence and this practice causes gender disbalance. To combat this issue, we have also undertaken endeavours to promote education to change perspectives and ensure a more balanced and fair society.
Women Empowerment
Women empowerment is the core area of our work as it is crucial to eradicate the idea of gender discrimination and women’s vulnerability. It is common for women in marginalized areas often face brutality, injustice and unfair treatment within their families. So, we are working to gather them and empower them by engaging them in income-generating activities providing training in beauticians, stitching and tailoring. We also train the young children in karate for self-defence. This way, we are changing things for them, making them stronger and more confident, so they can stand up for themselves and face the world with courage.
Family Counselling
We are also working to offer family counselling services specialising in resolving marital and familial conflicts. Our efforts aim to reconcile issues between spouses and other family members. We provide proper guidance and support, to create open communication and understanding within families. By addressing concerns and promoting healthy relationships, we strive to create harmonious family dynamics, contributing to the overall well-being of individuals and the community.
HIV Counselling
Raising awareness on vital health issues, we prioritize educating communities about HIV. It’s crucial to share information on safety measures. We also provide counselling to individuals living with HIV, offering support and guidance. By spreading knowledge and offering emotional assistance, we aim to reduce the stigma associated with HIV and empower individuals to make informed decisions for their health and well-being.
Education
Education is a child’s fundamental right and our weapon against child labour, marriage, and gender discrimination. We reach out to families grappling with these challenges and promote education by raising awareness about its significance. We get the children enrolled in schools, provide free books and pay educational fees till they grow up. To encourage their involvement in studies we give out free and basic daily essentials like ration, clothing, and all the support needed for their survival. Our aim is to eradicate the darkness of illiteracy and ensure a smooth educational journey, allowing children to thrive without resorting to work, and buiding a brighter future for them.
Awareness Against Superstition
In rural Maharashtra, women face threats due to harmful superstitions. We raise awareness against these beliefs endangering women and children’s lives. Taking legal action against promoters of superstitions, we’ve successfully resolved issues and saved lives. Our efforts aim to eliminate dangerous practices and create a safer environment in marginalized areas. We’re content with our achievements in tackling these challenges and ensuring the well-being of women and children.
